Donuts & Dingers @ Yeonas Park

Washington Nationals RHP Trevor Williams will be the featured guest at Yeonas Park on Saturday, June 3, the final day of the regular season for Vienna Little League's Majors, 3A & 2A programs.

Williams, who joined the Nationals this off-season as a free agent, will headline the “Donuts & Dingers” special event from 10-11 a.m. at Crabtree Field. All players and their families are encouraged to attend. The Yeonas snack bar will be open, and the Mama's Donut Bites food truck will be on hand.

After a Q&A session with players from our Minors Division, the event will feature a three-round Home Run Derby involving four of the regular-season HR leaders from our Majors program – the top 2 from the American League and the top 2 from the National League – plus the Nationals player.

  • The contest will follow the Official Rules for the T-Mobile Little League Home Run Derby.
  • Cones in the outfield will mark off a shortened fence distance of 170 feet from home plate; anything that lands in the air past that marker will be considered a Home Run.
  • 12-year-old players from our Majors program will act as ball shaggers in the field; the Nationals player may join the players in Round 1 or 2.
  • Round 1 (kids only): the 4 participants will each have 1 minute and 30 seconds to hit as many HRs as possible; they will use Little League-authorized metal USABat bats and official Little League game balls; the same adult pitcher will pitch to all players from behind an L-Screen positioned 30 feet from home plate. The AL player and NL player with the most HRs will advance to round 2.
  • Round 2 (kids only): same as round 1, but only two participants.
  • Round 3 Championship (Round 2 winner vs. Nats player): the rules are the same for the Little Leaguer; the Nats player will use an adult-sized bat but will hit foam balls. When the Nats player hits, the pitcher will be a pre-selected VLL 12-year-old who is not one of the derby participants.

In the (unlikely) event inclement weather closes Yeonas Park, the event will shift indoors to the Vienna Community Center and will become “Donuts & Dingers Dunks”. The same players would participate but the post-Q&A game would be a basketball contest in the style of the classic game “HORSE” (this version would be “NATS”).
